Update on Coronavirus and foreclosure: If you are facing foreclosure related to COVID-19, California has negotiated a 90 day grace period with several banks for homeowners impacted by the virus. In addition, if you have a home loan backed by a Federal housing program, the CARES Act recently passed by Congress, allows you to petition for a 180 day forbearance on the payment of your home loan. This would include these government agencies: FHA, VA, USDA, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Check to see if your loan is owned by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac and might qualify for a loan forbearance. The main requirements for forbearance are that you were not in foreclosure prior to February 1, 2020.
